Shipping Container Costs to Ireland
You don’t know a warm welcome until you’ve been to Dublin. The Irish are the masters of hospitality and their capital city is Ireland’s beating heart. With over 25% of the country’s population, Dublin’s got some real bustle. The atmosphere in the traditional pubs is irresistible and live music is rarely out of earshot, particularly in the winding alleyways of the Temple Bar district. Dublin is divided north and south by the River Liffey, creating two very distinct and unique halves. Every Dubliner is either a ‘northsider’ or a ‘southsider’ and they’re proud of it. In the centre of the city you’ll find the mighty Spire of Dublin and the tree-lined plaza, while the city’s outskirts have some real natural beauty, from the Wicklow Mountains to the south and Dublin Bay to the east. Before you can become a Dubliner, there is some practical information you should know about.Different shipping options
Unless you’re coming from Northern Ireland, any international move to Dublin is going to involve one of two kinds of shipping: air freight or sea freight. Each type has its own pros and cons, so you should consider them before making a decision.Air freight is good for people who are making last-minute moves at short notice. Shipping by air is expensive but it doesn’t take very long, with most international freight journeys lasting between one and three days.
Sea freight isn’t as fast but it’s a much cheaper option, so it’s certainly preferable to air freight if you’re planning a move well in advance. If you do opt for the ocean, your cargo will either be shipped in a 20ft or a 40ft container, depending on how much you want to bring. The size of your cargo will also determine whether you’ll be using a whole container or sharing a container with other people, which is called Less Than Container Load (LCL). Our shipping suppliers can help you with these decisions, and the majority of them also offer a full door-to-door service. <br?
Major shipping routes
Being right by the sea, Dublin has its own shipping port and it’s the largest one in Ireland. The Port of Dublin deals with almost 50% of Ireland’s trade, including two thirds of all inbound containers. What’s more, the port is located almost in the middle of the city, so once your container arrives at the port it won’t have much further to go. It will be transported either by truck or train to your new home in Dublin.Dublin customs
Customs are the final hurdle. For people moving from within the EU the process is fairly easy, but if you’re coming from a non-EU country then it’s a bit more complicated. The most important document you’ll need is the Transfer of Residence (TOR) Form 1076, which requires you to provide a detailed description of all the belongings you’re bringing into the country (along with proof of your new Irish residence). All containers may undergo physical inspection, so the inventory you provide must be accurate and specific. If the customs officials are satisfied, any used household goods can enter Ireland duty-free. Meanwhile, anything else (including new furniture) is subject to customs duties and VAT of approximately 23%. See below to get an idea of any prohibited or restricted items. You can also check out the Irish Customs official website for more information.Shipping Container Options
