Shipping Container Costs to Canada
If you’re planning a move to Toronto then we like your thinking. Canadians are famously friendly people and Toronto is probably the coolest city in the country. So life there is an unbeatable combination of cool and friendly. You’ve got the beautiful Lake Ontario right beside the super exciting, high-rise city centre. It’s a multicultural metropolis that enjoys warm summers and snowy winters. You just need to find out how much it costs to ship your stuff there and a happy, new Canadian life will be yours.Different shipping options
When there’s an ocean between your current country and Toronto, there are only two options; ship or plane. Sending your cargo via air will be pretty quick but also rather expensive, while shipping via sea is slower and comparatively cheaper. At MoveHub we recommend using a container ship because you get more for your money and you can take more stuff - it just requires a bit of advanced planning. Most shipping companies offer a full door-to-door service but you should double check with your supplier before agreeing any terms. The choice between a 20-foot and 40-foot container is also something you need to think about it, to find out more have a read here.Major shipping routes
It may surprise you to hear that the major port in Toronto is called the Port of Toronto. It sits on the lovely Lake Ontario and it’s one of Canada’s largest shipping ports. However, it’s a bit weird because it’s not actually on the coast. For container ships to reach Toronto, they need to sail down the St Lawrence River and pass through several other major cities (Quebec and Montreal). You don’t need to worry about that, though. You just need to know that the port is big and experienced enough to receive container ships and handle all your belongings properly.Canadian customs
Canadians are very welcoming but they still need to check what’s coming into their country. The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) work at five different ports, and they will investigate your container before it can be delivered to your new home. They need 24 hours to take it to a special facility and give it a proper scan before returning it again. Just don’t bring anything illegal and declare everything honestly and you’ll be fine.
